Algae Prevention & Control

PROBLEM: Mustard Algae

ANALYSIS:

Orange, yellow or mustard-colored spots on the water and pool surfaces are mustard algae. These small, single-celled plants cling loosely to pool walls. They can be brushed off easily but soon return.

Mustard algae can be resistant to chlorine and quaternary ammonium compounds commonly used in algaecides. A specially formulated algaecide is often needed to eliminate this persistent problem. Mustard algae may also be related to a high chlorine demand.

SOLUTION: Aqua Chem Algaecide Plus® - Mustard Algae

  • Check the pH and adjust (if necessary) to 7.2 — 7.6.
  • Brush and vacuum pool surfaces. Backwash the filter to remove accumulations of dead algae and debris.
  • Following label directions, add Aqua Chem Shock Plus®.
  • Following label directions, add Aqua Chem Algaecide Plus.
  • For major infestations, a second treatment may be needed.
  • Return to normal maintenance with Aqua Chem sanitizers, shock products and balancers.
  • As an algae preventative, add Aqua Chem Algaecide Plus or Algaecide Concentrate 60% per label directions as listed for preventative maintenance.
